Calwer Passage / Begrünte Fassade
Green, green, green are all my clothes... and facades! Stuttgart-Mitte is experiencing a green miracle. An overgrown building has been thriving on Rotebühlplatz since 2019. Evergreens, winter jasmine, clematis and other plants grow on the walls of the wide office building. And on the roof? A mini mixed forest stretches towards the sky - including black pines, English oaks, Swedish service trees and hornbeams.
In the spirit of "green urban development", the new building is a concept that is also attracting attention outside the Ländle region. The pioneering project demonstrates the contribution that façade greening can make to improving the urban climate. After exploratory trips to places such as Singapore, Milan and Basel, the planning team opted for "green air conditioning" on the wall and on top of the building. The plants not only have a cooling effect, but also a purifying one.
