GALERIE AK2
GALERIE AK2 is a project space for contemporary art in Stuttgart's Alexanderstraße (corner of Lorenzstaffel). The mostly site-specific exhibitions, performances and events focus on borders, interfaces and transitions. Starting from the visual arts, overlaps, interstices and areas of discussion with music, architecture, photography, film, theater and other artistic disciplines are explored. Questions about cultural boundaries and clichés always resonate.
The thematic orientation has its origins in the location and structure of the art space itself: Situated on the border between the city centre and a residential area, the interior is also characterized by two very different spaces. They still reveal their original use as a bakery/pastry shop and café. The former sales area now welcomes visitors with its raw charm of unplastered walls and bare concrete. Large shop windows allow the public space to flow into the showroom. The carefully restored former café from the late 1950s with its warm, sheltered atmosphere, on the other hand, is ideal for an exchange of ideas and a discursive program, as well as for unusual installation formats.
GALERIE AK2 is curated by Andreas Körner (photo designer), Marcel Mieth (artist) and Winfried Stürzl (art historian).
