Landtag Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart
The Baden-Württemberg state parliament in Stuttgart was built in 1959-61 by the architects Viertel, Linde and Heinle. The three-storey reinforced concrete skeleton structure is located on the Eckensee next to the Stuttgart Opera House. The architecture was not intended to compete with the typical classicism of the opera house and was therefore very restrained.
The large windows allow a view into the interior and are intended to symbolize the transparency of the then still young democracy.
The state parliament has a long tradition in Württemberg. As early as 1457, the first assembly of bourgeois estates was established.
