Stuttgarter Schriftstellerhaus
Hidden behind the high-rise building on Charlottenplatz is a historic row of houses in the short Kanalstraße. The four-storey brick building with the number 4 measures just 4.58 meters in width. What's inside this cramped 17th century building? A lot of book love! In the 1980s, the little house was already scheduled for demolition when things took an unexpected turn: in 1983, it was named the first writers' house in Germany. The association of the same name has set itself the task of promoting literature. Since then, the building has become a meeting place for authors from the region. Readings, conferences and regulars' tables take place in the cozy rooms on the first floor. Writing scholarship holders are accommodated under the roof.
