Service with lots of music in St. Matthew's Church.

On a concert tour to England, the Stuttgart Hymnus choirboys got to know the Evensong tradition by observing and making music themselves. The love and care with which these services are prepared and organized create a special spiritual atmosphere. Impressive places such as St. Paul's Cathedral in London and King's College Chapel in Cambridge did their bit.

On our return, we came up with the plan to transfer what we had experienced there to our own evening service. The result: the Hymnus Vespers in St. Matthew's Church in Heslach. The old hymns are sung in new settings by the Hymnus choir director Rainer Johannes Homburg, accompanied by motets from all eras of music history and new works specially commissioned from contemporary composers. In this way, the old tradition is kept alive.

Immerse yourself with us in the over 1000-year-old tradition of sung liturgy!
