The 24th Terre des Hommes art auction at the Württembergischer Kunstverein. The Terre des Hommes art auction has been an integral part of Stuttgart's cultural life and art scene for over 50 years.
Around 200 artists, galleries and private collectors are making works available for this year's art auction. Around 350 pictures (prints, watercolors, oil paintings, photographs, etc.) and objects will be auctioned off.
The proceeds from this year's art auction will go towards a project against child labor in northern India, which supports children and young people working in mica mines to improve their prospects in life. Mica is a mineral that is used in computers, cell phones, car parts and household appliances. Mica gives car paints, colors and cosmetic products a special shine. It is mined in 300 villages in the north of India, among other places. Whole families work in the mica mines there. Boys and girls also mine the material and sort the glittering flakes by size. The youngest are just four years old. The work involves a lot of dust and accidents at work are common, as the mines - holes up to 20 meters deep - often collapse or fill up with water when it rains. As the children have to contribute to their families' livelihoods, they often do not go to school. Terre des Hommes' local partner organizations provide kindergartens and bridge schools where the children are prepared to enter a state school. They learn about their rights in children's groups and families are supported in developing alternative sources of income.
We invite you and your friends to experience the special atmosphere of the art auction at the Württembergischer Kunstverein - there will be an opportunity for refreshments in between. When you bid for a picture or an object, you will be making yourself or others happy, and just as importantly, you will be making a contribution to improving the living conditions of children in India.
