In 2025, the Australian Chamber Orchestra celebrates its 50th anniversary. With its captivating virtuosity and innovative programs, it arouses the curiosity of audiences and transcends boundaries.
Artistic Director Richard Tognetti has been at the helm of this world-renowned ensemble for 35 years and has earned an international reputation for his captivating performances. To date, he has won six ARIA Awards (Australia's most prestigious music prize), including for his recordings of Bach's violin works. He and his chamber orchestra will be joined by the versatile pianist Alexander Melnikov, a renowned interpreter of Shostakovich.
Together they will present an exciting program about Bach and Shostakovich. The Russian composer, a major figure in 20th century music, took Bach as a model for his own preludes and fugues for piano.
To mark the 50th anniversary of his death, these exceptional artists will once again create a dialog between his music and that of the baroque master.
