Bach's contemporary George Frideric Handel composed the most glorious music for the glory of the British kings - not of a divine nature, of course, but of a divine nature. not of a divine nature, but "crowned by the grace of God".
The best examples of this are the three works in this concert, which provide a grand finale to the Bach Festival: the music for the royal fireworks in 1749, the birthday music for Queen Anne (1713) and the coronation anthems for George. II (1727), the most famous of which, "Zadok the Priest", was also sung at the coronation of Charles III in Westminster Abbey.
This extraordinary concert brings together the JSB Ensemble and the Gaechinger Cantorey, the two ensembles of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, in a finely tuned sound under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann. Together they bring us closer to the festive performances of Handel's works in the late 18th and 19th centuries, with voices and instruments true to the performance practice of the Baroque era.
