Karl Roßmann is banished from his homeland to New York for an offense. Initially taken in by a rich
uncle, he is soon cast out. In search of work, he finally finds a job as an elevator boy under the care of the head cook at the Hotel Occidental and ends up as a servant to the former singer Brunelda. Finally, he gets a job as a technician at the Oklahoma Nature Theater.
In ludicrous adventures, Franz Kafka depicts the social decline of his hero and humorously and sarcastically dissects the American dream.
