Stuttgart in focus:
Historically, Stuttgart is also a center of the movement. Above all, Carl Unger, Adolf Arenson and José del Monte, who came from Jewish merchant families, invested a lot of time and money in the 1910s and 1920s - first as theosophists and then as anthroposophists - and promoted a number of pioneering projects.
The Waldorf schools, the first of which was established here in Stuttgart, are now known worldwide. The entrepreneur Emil Molt wanted a new school for the employees of his Waldorf-Astoria cigarette factory. The world's first Waldorf school opened on Uhlandshöhe in 1919. Today, there are over 1,200 of these alternative educational institutions worldwide.
Less well known are the social impulses that emerged during this time. The Federation of Social Threefolding was founded in Stuttgart and anthroposophical medicines were developed at the Gänseheide Clinical Therapeutic Institute.
