Aria di Passacaglia | 20.11.24

Duration

120 minutes

Aria di Passacaglia

June Telletxea, soprano
Andreas Arend, archlute

The passacaglia, or "passacalle" ("walk through the street"), was originally a Spanish dance. However, the first written records can be found in Italy around 1600, and the initially quite simple formal structure of the repeated bass motif was later used to compose elaborate instrumental and vocal works that became popular throughout Europe during the Baroque period. This fusion of tradition and composition in the Renaissance and early Baroque period characterizes the programme. The common thread is love in all its diversity: love that transcends borders, motherly love, rejected love, eternal love, forbidden love, divine love ...

You will hear works by Juan Vásquez, Juan Hidalgo, Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi, Girolamo Frescobaldi and others, as well as Sephardic chants and traditional songs from the Iberian Peninsula.

A concert in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain.
