Auf nach Paris!

"Off to Paris!" is the motto of the Bonn Classical Philharmonic Orchestra's concert in February. This time, the orchestra is looking to its neighboring country France and is designing the program with this in mind: it starts with Haydn's Symphony No. 83 with the beautiful nickname "La Poule" ("The Chicken"). The work was composed in 1785 for the concert series "Le Concert de la Loge Olympique" and confirmed
Haydn's fame in France. Saint-Saens' first cello concerto represents a major step into the 19th century. It is probably one of the most important works in the cello repertoire and will be performed by Aleksey Shadrin, a young Ukrainian cellist who has already enjoyed great success at Kronberg Academy and elsewhere. The program concludes with Georges Bizet's Symphony in C major. He wrote this as a student at the tender age of just 17, but it was only performed posthumously. Since then, this work, which was to remain his only completed work in this genre, has enjoyed great popularity.
