The Haus der Heimat des Landes Baden-Württemberg is presenting an exhibition in cooperation with the Ostpreußisches Landesmuseum mit Deutschbaltischer Abteilung, Lüneburg.
Only in a few other European cities did the Second World War change the cityscape beyond recognition as much as in Königsberg, Kaliningrad since 1946. The exhibition shows photographs by the Königsberg photographer Fritz Krauskopf (1882-1945), which became famous in East Prussia before 1945 and after 1945, especially among East Prussians in the Federal Republic of Germany. In his photographs he initially captured the splendid aspects of Königsberg and its surroundings, later he photographed the city lying in ruins after the bombing raids in August 1944. Krauskopf's pictures continue to shape the memory of old Königsberg to this day.
