On this evening, Nicolas Buvat invites the French singer Lou Rivaille to honor the most beautiful songs composed and interpreted by women.

"Speaking was undoubtedly the first achievement of women in the 20th century. Raising their voice, whether at the ballot box, on the street or through a microphone, was the prerequisite for all other struggles," said Victor Macé de Lépinay in his program Les femmes dans la chanson française. As early as the end of the 19th century, women in France took up the voice in the emerging genre of cabaret. They sang, danced and made the audience laugh or cry. Some of the names of this genre are now considered indispensable in the world of chanson française: Barbara, Juliette Gréco, Lucienne Boyer and Edith Piaf, of course.

Their heirs will continue to shape generation after generation, despite a ruthless cultural world and the tendency to receive a lot of criticism from a world that is perhaps still too male-dominated.

On this evening, Nicolas Buvat invites the French singer Lou Rivaille to pay tribute to the most beautiful songs composed and interpreted by women.

Lou Rivaille is a singer, instrumentalist, performer and composer who was mainly influenced by jazz and world music. Through her many facets as a vocalist and her creations, she has conquered a place for herself in today's vocal and instrumental jazz. Considering her voice as a fully-fledged instrument, she handles and adapts her vocal technique in the service of the timbre and artistic identity of her projects and draws a lot from her encounters. Her voice blends with swing, pop, improvisation, chanson, but also with traditional musical styles such as Cuban son or Balkan songs. Lou is passionate about exchange, the discovery of styles and new practices.

"Today, Lou Rivaille is one of the most promising and original singers of the new generation. She and her band Elliavir are developing an airy repertoire full of grace and poetry that looks to pop and soul as well as the vocal daring of artists such as Norma Winstone, one of the stars of the ECM label."
JEAN-CHARLES DOUKHAN, TSF Jazz
