Marco Štorman and Cornelius Meister
"Casanova" is an operetta by Johann Strauss that he did not actually write himself. Rather, "Casanova" is a revue operetta that Ralph Benatzky - the composer of the legendary "Im weißen Rössl" - put together and arranged with music by Johann Strauss for the Großes Schauspielhaus Berlin in 1928
. And so Casanova in "Casanova" is of course not the historical figure Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (1725-1798), whose name became a type and whose memoirs are considered a rich source for European social mores of the 18th century, but above all a projection surface and attribution. This myth of male desire is countered with a female perspective, including texts from Judith Schalansky's "Verzeichnis einiger Verluste". In the matinee of "Casanova", director Marco Štorman and conductor Cornelius Meister provide insights into the scenic and musical conception of the new production at the Stuttgart State Opera - and of course there is music too. By Johann Strauss and Ralph Benatzky, sung and played by participants in the production.
