Ink painting workshop on the theme of bamboo with Monika Hoffer

Chinese ink painting, which radiates calm and tranquillity, is based on restraint, the economy of the ink, the restriction to the essentials and the fusion with the empty space. The focus is not so much on a "useful purpose" and it is not practiced in order to create a picture at all costs, but the practice serves above all to collect oneself in silence, to train one's consciousness and to develop oneself. The practical realization of this art is the source of the almost ingenious system of contentment - the secret of the "Smiling East". The goal is therefore not the resulting picture, but the path to it. We learn not to see, but to recognize.

The course is aimed at beginners and advanced students. No previous knowledge is required.

The practical aim for beginners is to learn how to use the "4 treasures of the study room" (Chinese brush, rice or mulberry paper, rubbing stone and rubbing ink) and an introduction to bamboo painting. Advanced students can start bamboo painting straight away.

Please bring: white felt (or molleton) min. 60 x 80 cm, white flat plate, kitchen paper, 2 water glasses, paper weights, food. 4 treasures and paper will be brought by the workshop leader and are included in the price.
