Documentary film about the bitter side of the chocolate industry - in cooperation with Eine Welt FairOst e.V. and INKOTA e. V.
Together with local groups throughout Germany, INKOTA is going on tour again in 2024 with the documentary "The Chocolate War". The film by director Miki Mistrati accompanies US human rights lawyer Terry Collingsworth over five years in his fight against the deliberate exploitation of child laborers and child slaves on Ivorian cocoa plantations. As a lawyer for eight former victims, he repeatedly traveled to West Africa to gather new evidence for a lawsuit against the international chocolate manufacturers Nestlé and Cargill. He finally succeeds in having his case heard by the US Supreme Court. But against the food giants and their army of lawyers, Collingsworth and his colleague face a difficult task.
Together with interested parties, we will watch the film and talk about the causes of the continued existence of exploitative child labor on cocoa plantations in West Africa: What has happened in the last 20 years? What responsibility do chocolate companies in Germany bear? And can a German supply chain law ensure that there is no more child labor in our chocolate?
