DANCE YOUR SKIN COLLECTIVE (DYS-C) builds on Lisa Thomas' performance DANCE YOUR SKIN, which premiered in July 2023. The visualization of older bodies in dance and the choreographic work with its very own aesthetic potential also form the artistic and thematic core of the new production. Lisa Thomas and her team, most of whom were also involved in the previous project, are now expanding the performance to include six more dancers. The women all come from very different backgrounds: some are young, professionally trained dancers, others are almost 80-year-old women who move with the audience through an immersive spatial installation and through video and sound worlds.
Contrasts between young and old bodies also show what they have in common, transitions become visible or play no role at all. Youth will age, age was once youth. And do differences even have to be viewed in a judgmental way? Can a visual and movement language be found that works aesthetically precisely on these transitions and celebrates the different body images and lifetimes simultaneously and equally? DYS-C detaches the body from the different aesthetic expectations of the audience, makes it visible, differently aged and trained bodies create different tableaux vivants together in the exhibition setting.
