No April Fool's joke - on April 1, 2026, the SWR Big Band will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a brilliant concert in the Liederhalle Stuttgart, kicking off a special anniversary year.
Under the direction of Magnus Lindgren, long-time artist in residence of the Big Band and successful multi-instrumentalist, the audience can expect musical fireworks in a class of their own and will be taken on a musical journey through the highlights of the band's history. With a Hollywood wide-screen format and additional strings, percussionists and harp, the audience will get closer to the band than ever before. And the concert promises not only first-class jazz, but also some special surprise guests.

Magnus Lindgren has been Artist in Residence with the SWR Big Band since 2018 and is a true multi-talent: he plays tenor saxophone, flute and clarinet and arranges, composes and conducts many pieces himself. This talent has also caught the attention of others: Lindgren was already on stage with Herbie Hancock at the age of 18, and just under 10 years later he won the Swedish Grammy with his album "Paradise Open". On his latest solo album "Stockholm Underground", which was released on CD by the renowned record label ACT in 2017, Lindgren dedicates himself to playing the flute. He was nominated for the Echo Jazz award for Best Woodwinds. Magnus Lindgren is now considered one of the most successful jazz musicians in Europe.
