A city that could not be more surreal. In the fog of Venice, of all places, the writer Gustav von Aschenbach is looking for a way out of an existential dead end. In the process, he repeatedly encounters a person who appears to him in various guises. Do they know each other from a previous life? Were they perhaps even friends? Or is the other just his own reflection in the water mirror of the canal? And then there is this boy ... Benjamin Britten's last opera was staged by Demis Volpi as a co-production with the Stuttgart Ballet. Matthias Klink once again takes on the role of Gustav von Aschenbach, for whose performance he was named "Singer of the Year 2017" and awarded the FAUST Prize 2018.
