The four musicians call their sound Free Rock. The band presents old songs, newer material and, in between, gems of improvisation on the stage of the Laboratorium.
In 1987, Der Trieb emerged from a creative, changing session line-up: unusual sounds, sometimes almost psychedelic improvisations, mixed with hard rock and jazz rock, enriched with elements from world music and new music. Tonight, Trieb will present their current program: Old Trieb hits such as "Differences", "Der Kopf" and "As a Boat Falls", newer songs such as "Der Traum" and "Response" and, clearly in between, pearls of improvisation, free rock, drawn from the moment - jazzy, noisy, dizzy.
"This band," says the feature section of the Stuttgarter Nachrichten, "is always making a name for itself because the concerts are never boring. Unusual sounds, sometimes almost psychedelic improvisational music, mixed with hard rock and jazz rock and krautrock, enriched with elements from world music and new music. Trieb simply calls this free rock, today it is often referred to as prog rock. In between, the resourceful musicians repeatedly weave songs with a garage mentality, mainly penned by Gez Zirkelbach or Uli Stiefel. At the latest, when bassist Martin Traub and drummer Lego Heubach on the one hand phrase originally and on the other hand keep the rhythm perfectly, this complex interplay shows that this band has been around, albeit intermittently, for 20 years (...) with full drive."
