Comedy by Anton Hamik.
Swabian adaptation: Franz Xaver Ott
The grandfather lives on the farm of his son-in-law, who has all kinds of trouble with him and the financial situation on the farm. Now the maid quits because she can no longer stand the grandfather's insolence. Should they get rid of the old man? Meanwhile, a wealthy horse dealer tries to marry off his daughter to the son of the farm, which, although surprising, could at least avert the burden of debt. However, the son does not agree, as he does not even know the bride. Nor is the horse trader's intention altruistic; he had heard that the grandfather owned two houses, and so he persuades the farmer to let him have the grandfather for a small sum of money. He hopes to become the heir to his grandfather's estate when he dies. But he has not reckoned with the shrewd old man.
This folk comedy is a firework display of witty punchlines and clever twists. The center of the play is the agile and clever grandfather. He is up to almost any situation and is never at a loss for an answer. He always has a cheeky line up his sleeve and, to everyone's surprise, he holds the strings in his hand and always has one more trump card up his sleeve.
