Guided tour of the Landesmuseum with Cornelia Buder, art historian

The depiction of the Christmas story on altars or frescoes was of central importance for conveying the story of salvation in church communities. The Talheim altar from the parish church of St. Cyriacus and Pankratius in Talheim is an impressive example of the depiction of the birth of Christ and the Adoration of the Magi. The colors blue, red, white and gold dominate the paintings as well as the sculptures in the central section. Painted, matt, shiny and embossed gold backgrounds alternate skillfully. All the pictorial elements are full of symbolism. These are explained as well as their derivation from the biblical texts.
