DOTA

The Berlin band DOTA, led by musician Dota Kehr, has released a new album.
Using subtle and multi-layered lyrics, they knit catchy pop songs with room for gentle poetry, political and party moods, melancholy and silliness - with such effortless transitions in between that the implications of some thoughts only sink in on the second or third listen.
DOTA has been on the road with this line-up since 2017 and has long since outgrown its status as an insider tip: their last three albums have been in the top 20, with 'Kaléko', released in 2020, spending eight weeks in the charts, plus awards such as the Fred Jay Prize and numerous sold-out tours throughout the German-speaking world. With their new album, they were even able to go one better and enter the top ten for the first time at number 7. A success that is all the more pleasing because it can be celebrated completely independently and without a major label behind them.
Politically engaged, Dota is not content with having the "right" opinion and delivering slogans for those who are already like-minded. Instead, she confronts her own helplessness on "Wir rufen Dich, Galaktika". No answers, but songs in which you can surrender to utopia, at least for the duration of a chorus.
Dota writes songs that are actually needed. Songs that permanently change and open up our view of the world - in small, everyday details and in the big picture.
