Ein Abend im Haus Schumann
- Location:
- Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Urbanstraße 25, 70182 Stuttgart
Welcome to the House of Schumann! Clara Schumann, the most famous pianist of her time, regularly invited representatives of music, painting and art from all over Europe to her home. The program of this house concert includes works by the Schumann and Mendelssohn families, who were particularly closely connected. "A hundred hearts flew to him at the first moment", wrote Robert Schumann as a listener and critic about Felix Mendelssohn's debut in Leipzig in 1835. From then on, a close friendship began, which ended with Mendelssohn's early death. Two female figures always played a catalytic role, despite the male-dominated environment: Schumann's wife Clara Wieck-Schumann and Mendelssohn's sister Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel.
