Rediscovered plans for Rosenstein Castle

Did you know that Rosenstein Castle, which houses the Natural History Museum, was intended as a summer residence for King Wilhelm I and Queen Katharina?

Before construction of the palace began in 1824, a Europe-wide competition was held in which Napoleon's former court architect, Pierre Fontaine, took part. His plans were considered lost for 200 years until they were acquired by the Baden-Württemberg State Archives in 2022.

From September 18, the drawings will be on display at the Main State Archive in Stuttgart. The exhibition traces the architectural competition and looks at the history of the building's construction and use.

Further information on the exhibition can be found at www.landesarchiv-bw.de
