Jean Tinguely (1925 - 1991) would have been 100 years old on May 22, 2025. To mark the occasion, we are offering guided tours of the restoration of two of the artist's kinetic works.
Over the past few months, "Le cerveau électro-ironique" and "Yokohama" by Tinguely have been extensively examined and restored in the Wüstenrot Foundation's Schauatelier. In cooperation with the conservator of the Museum Tinguely in Basel, Jean-Marc Galliard, the qualified conservators Lena Bühl and Antoaneta Ferres developed strategies to preserve the works both materially and functionally.
We are delighted that the meta-relief "Yokohama" from 1956 can be shown again in the collection presentation "THIS IS TOMORROW" just in time for Tinguely's 100th birthday - for the first time on International Museum Day on May 18! At the same time, final work on the machine sculpture "Le cerveau électro-ironique" will take place in May in the Schauatelier Wüstenrot, including the reworking of the motor.
Every Wednesday you have the opportunity to watch the restoration live!
Extensive theoretical studies are currently taking place. Feel free to knock on the door of the show studio and talk to the restorers.
