Everyone wants to grow old, nobody wants to be old. The contradiction is absurd, the suffering is real. How can we learn to cope with it as well as possible? Is it possible to grow old and lead a fulfilling life?
lead a fulfilled life? Elke Heidenreich has taken a closer look at growing old. The result is a book that only she can write. Personal, honest, but never merciless, in a word: life-smart. She reflects on her own life and, above all, on her relationships with other people. In old age, you bear the consequences of everything you have done. But with it also comes serenity, and you realize: "Most things are completely unimportant. You should just breathe and
be grateful."
Elke Heidenreich lives in Cologne. She studied German and theater studies and worked for radio and television for many years. Her work has received several awards, including the Ernst Johann Literature Prize 2021. Her most recent books published by Hanser are Ihr glücklichen Augen. Kurze Geschichten zu weiten Reisen (2022) and Frau Dr. Moormann & ich (2023).
