Lecture by Jörg Brill from the Akademischer Arbeitskreis Schienenverkehr e.V. in the Chaos Computer Club Stuttgart series
Control and safety technology is vital in rail transportation, as it ensures that trains can run accident-free. It ensures that trains do not meet on the same tracks and that trains cannot enter blocks already occupied by another train.
While Marc 'Zugschlus' Haber spoke in March about the control and safety technology used to date, Jörg from Akademischer Arbeitskreis Schienenverkehr e.V. will present the next generation of control and safety technology: the European Train Control System (ETCS) and the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). The ERTMS manages traffic on the European rail networks and uses the ETCS (train control) and GSM-R (communication) modules as well as the specifications for interoperability (TSI).
