Concert (not only) for prospective high school graduates at the Liederhalle Stuttgart
Sebastian Manz (clarinet), Libor Sima (saxophone and bassoon), Christof Skupin (trumpet), Felix Borel (violin), Lars Scharper (double bass), Felix Birnbaum (percussion), as well as Adrian Brendle and Ull Möck (piano) perform music between classical and jazz by Miles Davis, Maurice Ravel, George Gershwin, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wolfgang Rihm and others.
Classical and jazz specialists from the SWR Symphony Orchestra present the mutual relationship between the two genres of classical music and jazz in their selection of music with personal commentaries. Jazz standards such as "Autumn Leaves", "Take the 'A' Train" or "I Got Rhythm" meet works by Maurice Ravel or Wolfgang Rihm. The students learn first-hand from the musicians how, for example, harmony and rhythm change in jazz, which sound effects are possible on the instruments and how they are used, how and why jazz saxophonist and solo bassoonist of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Libor Sima reinterprets jazz standards and whether improvisation really works completely without a plan. With its moderated live performance, the concert offers a perfect complement to the Abitur topic and an introduction to the subject of jazz. For interested classes and courses, we offer a discussion round with the artists after the concert in the form of speed dating.
Duration: approx. 2.5 hours including breaks, 3 hours with discussion round. Recommended for prospective high school graduates, but also for middle and high school students.
Registration for the discussion round after the concert at musikvermittlung@SWR.de.
The concert program and information on the works will be available free of charge at schulmusik-online.de 6 weeks before the concert.
