Gefährliche Liebschaften

Location:
Altes Schauspielhaus, Kleine Königstr. 9, 70178 Stuttgart

A magnificent literary portrait of 18th century France - and at the same time an exciting play about power, manipulation and morality.

The Marquise de Merteuil is bent on revenge: since her lover has left her to marry the convent student Cécile de Volanges, her friend, the Vicomte de Valmont, is to seduce the young woman before the wedding. Valmont himself, however, has set himself a far more difficult task: He wants to win over the virtuous Madame de Tourvel. If he succeeds in both, Merteuil promises him an incomparable night as a reward. A complex web of intrigue unfolds, which becomes all the more dangerous when real feelings come into play.

Published in 1782, the epistolary novel "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" is considered a classic of world literature. The British playwright Christopher Hampton adapted the material for the theater and also wrote the screenplay for the famous film adaptation. He succeeded in creating a great romantic drama and at the same time a gripping power struggle between two scheming egomaniacs who do not feel bound by social norms and abuse their fellow human beings for their own ends. The play offers a "captivating evening of malicious wit", wrote the New York Times.

We are opening the season with an opulent new production by Ulrich Wiggers and Leif-Erik Heine ("Cyrano de Bergerac", "Kabale und Liebe"). The leading roles are played by Lisa Wildmann, Sven Mattke and Natalie O'Hara ("Der Bergdoktor")!
