Panel discussion at the Hotel Silber.
Are court proceedings suitable for (re)establishing peace, security and justice after human rights and violent crimes? Are there other or additional possibilities?
The current special exhibition "Gestapo in Court" ends with these questions and thus leads from the criminal investigation of Nazi crimes to current issues that are now being discussed worldwide under the term "transitional justice".
After a brief introduction to the concept of "transitional justice", Prof. Dr. Thorsten Bonacker (Centre for Conflict Research, University of Marburg) will discuss the challenges and opportunities of transitional justice with Dr. Dorothee Weitbrecht (Elisabeth Käsemann Foundation) and Dr. Karina Mroß (German Institute of Development and Sustainability) using international examples.
Dr. Dorothee Weitbrecht is a historian specializing in international remembrance culture and politics. She is also the founder and managing director of the Elisabeth Käsemann Foundation, which promotes the international examination of authoritarian and conflict-ridden pasts in order to strengthen democratic culture and human rights.
Dr. Karina Mroß works as a political scientist at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) in the field of transformation of political (dis)order. She deals with transitional justice, political transformation and peace processes as well as post-conflict societies from a development policy and comparative perspective.
Prof. Dr. Thorsten Bonacker, Deputy Managing Director of the Center for Conflict Research at the Philipps University of Marburg, teaches and researches as Professor of Peace and Conflict Research at the interface of sociology and political science in the field of international relations. His regional focus is on Central Asia and Southeast Asia (especially Cambodia and East Timor).
The event is being held in cooperation with the Elisabeth Käsemann Foundation and is part of the program accompanying the special exhibition "Gestapo in Court. The persecution of Nazi criminals".
