Thomas Bernhard's novel focuses on a narrator who observes an "artistic evening party" in Vienna's Gentzgasse from the distance of his wing chair and dissects it with malicious precision. The assembled crowd is waiting for the announced arrival of an actor from the castle; moreover, most of the people in this society are connected to each other because their friend Joana, who died by suicide, was laid to rest in the village of Kilb on the afternoon of the same day.
Thomas Bernhard's famous prose is brought to life in recitative, while the musicians of Franui will be heard performing a specialty that has made them famous: the celebration of funeral marches and funeral music.
