Anne Frank dreamed of one day becoming a famous writer. Her father Otto Frank, who was the only family member to survive the war, wanted to fulfill his daughter's wish and made the distribution of Anne's diary his life's work. Book presentation with Dr. Thomas Sparr

Het Achterhuis" was published in the Netherlands in 1947 and the first German edition was published in 1950. Today, the diary is one of the most widely read books in the world. The impact it has had since the post-war period is unparalleled and unbroken. But the story of its success is marked by obstacles and setbacks - and is largely unknown. In conversation with Günter Riederer (Stadtarchiv Stuttgart), Thomas Sparr explains how the diary came into being, how it was distributed, how it is received around the world and why it is still with us today.

Thomas Sparr is an author, literary scholar and publishing editor. After studying literature and philosophy in Marburg, Hamburg and Paris, he worked at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem from 1986 to 1989 and then at the German Literature Archive in Marbach. From 1990 to 1998 he was head of the Jüdischer Verlag, was chief editor of the Siedler Verlag and now works at Suhrkamp Verlag as Editor-at-Large.
