ISTANBUL
A play with music by Sezen Aksu
The play tells a moving story of the search for love and happiness in scenes in German and songs in Turkish. At the center of the action is Reinhold Weiser, who plays Klaus Gruber, a worker from Stuttgart. In search of work, he is drawn away from his Swabian homeland to Istanbul, the vibrant metropolis on the Bosporus. For this is the surprising twist in the play: what if the economic miracle had not taken place in Germany, but in Turkey?
The German-Turkish ensemble, the powerful live band and the wonderful music by Sezen Aksu, the queen of Turkish pop, delight a diverse audience night after night. "Stuttgart seems to have been waiting for this play", wrote the press (GEA): "A plea for tolerance and friendship in turbulent political times" (LKZ).
With Ursula Berlinghof, Irfan Kars, Reinhold Weiser and others.
