Joe Lovano feat. the Marcin Wailewski Trio:
The first-time meeting of the dynamic trio around Marcin Wasilewski with the US tenor player Joe Lovano and his voluminous tone produces a special music of concentrated, deep feeling, in which lyricism and power seem ideally balanced. On Arctic Riff, this alliance plays four new compositions by Marcin and one by Joe, as well as Carla Bley's classic "Vashkar" (in two variations), plus collective improvisations with strong input from all four musicians; Slawomir Kurkiewicz's bass playing comes into its own particularly well in the spontaneously created piece "Arco". Joe will perform with the Polish trio at a series of selected concerts this fall. Arctic Riff was recorded in August 2019 in the French studio La Buissonne and produced by Manfred Eicher.
