Through the artistic appropriation of various advertisements, Meckseper not only questions the common mechanisms of representation of the modern consumer world in her works, but also confronts the sphere of consumption with the political expressions of globalized protest culture.

Over the last two decades, Josephine Meckseper has developed an artistic strategy that mixes the aesthetics of modernism with the formal language of advertising using display cases, sales stands, wall shelves, magazines and films, and confronts them with images and artifacts of historical and political events.

Meckseper's individual compositions have an unusual and challenging effect on the viewer. Through the artistic appropriation of various advertisements, her works not only question the common mechanisms of representation of the modern consumer world, but also confront the sphere of consumption with the political expressions of globalized protest culture. By combining different media such as photography, installation, painting and collage, Meckseper succeeds in examining the multi-layered, interwoven forms of expression of the political and the aesthetic, thus providing the viewer with a precise analysis of our omnipresent "Société du Spectacle".

Josephine Mecksepers' large-scale installations and films have been shown at biennials and museums worldwide. Her works are represented in the collections of many important museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Metropolitan Museum, New York and the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. The artist lives and works in New York.
