Ken

A full-length solo dance piece by and with the choreographer and dancer Smadar Goshen.
The piece "Ken" deals with a reality of chaos and destruction and the resulting sovereignty for alternatives of existence. The 50-minute interdisciplinary solo combines intense physicality, sculptural movement, theatrically composed scenes, live video projection with vocal and verbal expression of emotion.
Goshen views chaos as a fundamental pattern of existence that naturally breaks down systems and structures, and attempts to physically live through the various conflicts it poses as such. Driven by the impact of chaos, not only in its scientific nature but also in its socio-political role, Goshen grapples with personal and collective events of extreme disruption. She learns about the physicality of chaos that breaks boundaries and the shock caused by the collapse of a structure. The clash of the forces of ruins and survivability. The chaos that does not create repetition, but evolution. The chaos that is in each and every one of us, and in all of us as a unit. She asks where and how in a single body, her single body, lies the power of the "many". The piece presents a bold, unapologetic look at a journey to highlight existence.
Alluding to Goshen's origins, the name of the piece has a meaning in Hebrew: "Ken" means "yes". Goshen withdraws from the verbal to the physical. Yes, in the sense of accepting and testing more than one way, more than one truth, more than one reality. A yes and another yes and another yes will show the beauty of chaos.
