Lefta rembetiko

Underground and urban folk music of the 30s from Athens/Piraeus

Simon "Sid" Steiner (Stuttgart) and "Latino" Klaus Pfeiffer (São Paulo) play the Greek underground music Rembetiko on bouzouki, baglamas, tsouras, guitar, clarinet, saxophone and percussion. Their repertoire focuses on songs from Piraeus and Athens in the 1930s.
The duo TA LEFTA Klaus Pfeiffer and Simon Steiner play the rembetika traditionally and experimentally and are joined on this evening by Evangelos Dimopoulos.

Oriental-sounding scales and the 9/8 time signature are typical of Rembetiko. Rembetiko has its roots in Asia Minor.
