Liederabend - Franz Schubert

Location:
Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Urbanstraße 25, 70182 Stuttgart

Poetry, melody and instrumental piano commentary merge in the song. It presents singers and pianists - and their listeners - with special challenges. Music-making in partnership, chamber music listening and breathing together are required, but also playing words or singing colors, which can develop into a fascinating adventure.

Thomas Seyboldt, a Lied pianist who has performed Schubert's entire Lied oeuvre as part of the "schubertiade.de - Forum für Liedkunst" festival, will take you on a journey of discovery. Students of the HMDK Stuttgart from the voice and piano classes can work on Schubert songs and deepen their understanding of the style, form and interpretation of the song. The overwhelmingly rich cosmos of over 600 songs by Franz Schubert offers the most diverse possibilities for lively narration and inspired interpretation, with each song unfolding its own magic.

Thomas Seyboldt, song pianist, solo repetiteur, musicologist, author and editor, has been teaching at music academies since 1990, first in Karlsruhe and from 2010 at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, as well as song interpretation in Lübeck since 2008. He gives interpretation courses in Europe and Asia and has been a visiting professor of song interpretation at the University of Music in Xi'an, China, since 2004. As a Lied pianist, Seyboldt has performed Schubert's entire Lied oeuvre. He is artistic director of the festival "schubertiade.de - Forum für Liedkunst". Thomas Seyboldt has worked with Thomas Quasthoff, Cornelius Hauptmann, Markus Schäfer, Lothar Odinius, Tilman Lichdi, Hanno Müller-Brachmann, Friedemann Röhlig and Michael Nagy, Bernhard Jaeger-Böhm and Bernhard Gärtner, Ulrike Sonntag, Heidrun Kordes, Birgid Steinberger and Christiane Hampe as well as violinist Ulf Hoelscher and violist Isabel Charisius. Seyboldt and baritone Hans Christoph Begemann have worked together as a song duo for 35 years. In 2016, the CD "Wolfgang Rihm: Goethe-Lieder" received the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik". The CD release "Franz Schubert: Lieder (live)", 5 CDs, live productions by SWR, was named CD of the month by Opernwelt in January 2018, is on the longlist 1/2018 of the "German Record Critics' Award" and was nominated for the "International Classical Music Awards 2019". The CD "Wolfgang Rihm: Dort wie hier" was released in September 2019. It received the "Pizzicato Supersonic Award" and was nominated for the "International Classical Music Awards 2020". The latest CD released was "Ludwig van Beethoven: Lieder". Numerous other recordings document his work, some of which have won international awards.
