With her new album "So Close", Lisa Wilhelm and her quartet are fulfilling a long-cherished dream: the recordings were made in collaboration with a string quartet and three very different great singers - from Hamburg to Chicago.
The new album will not be officially released until May 2025, but the big release party is already taking place in advance - and exclusively at BIX Jazzclub. At this special concert, all the contributors to the album will be there live: the string quartet, the wonderful singers and, of course, the quartet itself.
Winner of the 2023 Soloist Award of the Young German Jazz Prize - Lisa WIlhelm belongs to a generation that thinks in a group-oriented and serviceable way, leads sensitively from the background and surprises with her sensitive compositions.
Her debut album "Potpourri - quoted not stolen" was named one of the jazz albums of 2023 by WDR, among others, and was also NDR Jazz Album of the Week in February 2023. The second album "So Close" will be released in May 2025. The lyrical, melodic jazz of the debut album is complemented by dreamy pop music and stories that life writes: about dreams, hopes, fears and the love of films, books and loved ones. The quartet formed in 2020, when they were all studying at the HMDK Stuttgart at the same time.
Lisa Wilhelm's musical path took her across Germany via Hamburg to Dinkelsbühl and the BfS, where she primarily followed her roots in pop music. Her love of jazz brought her back to Stuttgart, where she began her jazz percussion studies at the HMDK in 2018 and completed her bachelor's degree in 2023. In 2021, her studies at the Royal College of Music took her to Stockholm before she moved to Lisbon to complete another semester at the Escola Superior de Música.
In addition to LiWiQ, she plays in various constellations with different musicians from Europe, such as the Trio BÖE, the Restle Wögler Big Band, Tim Scherer Trio or the Indie Band Nitsch. In addition to concerts in German jazz clubs and international clubs, she has already played as part of the "Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy" 2021 in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, where she shared the stage with internationally renowned musicians such as Matt Brewer, Melissa Aldana, Yaron Herman, Theo Croker, Ziv Ravitz and Julia Hülsmann.
Cast: Lukas Wögler (tsax); Moritz Langmaier (p); Franz Blumenthal (b); Lisa Wilhelm (dr); Annette Köhler (vl); Monika Beck (vl); Natascha Stromer (vla); Laurens Groll (clo); special guests (voc).
