Christa Winsloe's play caused a sensation on the stages of Berlin in 1931 and was filmed twice. A Prussian boarding school for girls, a place of "discipline and order", in which queer love sprouted - it was popular and scandalous.
In 2025, Axel Brauch's production with students of Modern German Literature at the University of Stuttgart questions the text anew. How are mechanisms of power that seek to exclude those who think differently, feel differently and love differently legitimized today? What forms of solidarity exist? Which voices are heard under which conditions? "Dad writes: you must persevere, don't give up - our fatherland will soon need iron men again" (Winsloe). In 1930, Winsloe foresaw what would happen next.

How do we counter such developments today? In this production, the almost century-old text becomes a play of great topicality.
