between/rent. Young literature in shared flats in Stuttgart
"Reading this book is like a racing heart in slow motion. It hurts, and that's beautiful." Fatma Aydemir
Small reading stages in the middle of the city? It's possible: in the reading series zwischen/miete, apartments and private rooms become event venues for an evening and host authors from the youngest generation of German-language writers. In February, Selma Kay Matter
will be a guest with her prose debut "Muskeln aus Plastik": Kay has a serious crush - and a serious illness. A crush is always followed by a crash, severe palpitations are followed by migraines, making out is followed by aching limbs. While Kay tries to escape the consequences of Long Covid, only the longing for Aron and the desire for a strong, androgynous body bring relief. "Muscles of Plastic" deals with chronic illness and transness - and the way our society thinks and talks about "healthy" bodies. Selma Kay Matter, born in Zurich, studied scenic writing at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Hildesheim Literature Institute. Matter is the author of the plays "Alice disappears", "Alias Anastasius" and "Grelle Tage". The latter was published as a book in 2023 and was awarded the Hans Gratzer Prize in 2022 and the Nestroy Prize in 2023.
