The young countertenor Nils Wanderer is the first prizewinner of the German National Singing Competition 2022 and was the first and only German countertenor to win Placido Domingo's Operalia 2022.
After completing his Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he has sung principal roles in opera and oratorio at the Teatro Massimo Palermo, Salzburg Festival, Opera de Lille, Berlin State Opera, Hanover State Opera, the Vatican in Rome, Handel Festival Halle, Barbican Centre London, Palace of Versailles, Philharmonie de Paris, L'Auditori Barcelona under the direction of Kent Nagano, Jordi Savall, Christian Thielemann, David Bates, Patrick Lange and gives recitals and concerts with renowned song accompanists such as Daniel Heide or Marcelo Ameral from Europe to North America and India.
This season he can be heard as Speranza in Monteverdi's "L' Orfeo" and as Edgar in Reimann's "LEAR" at the State Opera in Hanover.
He also sings Tolomeo in Handel's "Giulio Cesare" at the Frankfurt Opera, Britten's Oberon in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Blackwater Festival in Dublin and gives a concert tour with Schubert's "Winterreise" in various concert halls in Canada at the invitation of the German Embassy.
With his own project "Wanderer between the Worlds", baroque music and electrodid sounds meet at eye level and go beyond the boundaries of serious music and light music.
2024 he will found and direct the festival "Zwischen den Welten" in cooperation with Schlösser und Gärten Baden - Württemberg as artistic director.
He also works closely with Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer from the band "Roselstolz", who have written the role of the "Angel of Death" for him for their new musical "Romeo and Juliet" at the Theater des Westens Berlin.
In addition to his work as an opera singer, Nils Wanderer works internationally as an actor, choreographer and director for opera and theater.
2024/25 he becomes Artist in Residence at the Staatstheater Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is responsible as director, choreographer and soloist for 2 new operas and a world premiere in ballet.
