What do you do when you're always unlucky? Everything you touch breaks, the others are always nagging you, life is just one big misfortune. There's only one thing to do - run away! Bad luck takes off and meets someone who is completely different: a lucky child who has everything and everyone looks after her. But what happens next? Why doesn't Lucky Child feel like laughing at all and unlucky Bird is the happiest person in the world? Even when he is caught by the King of Utopia, Glückskind's father, who suspects him of being responsible for his child's misfortune. And who wants to punish him for it...
The author Richard von Volkmann was actually a surgeon by profession - he operated on and healed people. He was also very successful and pioneering in this field. Writing was his hobby. He wrote poems, songs and stories.
During the 1870/1871 war in France, where he helped wounded soldiers as a doctor and was therefore unable to be at home for several months. He wrote 22 fairy tales and sent them to his family. In 1871, he published them under the title "Träumereien an französischen Kaminen". The fairy tale "Unlucky Bird and Lucky Child" is also included.
