Finnish author Sofi Oksanen is considered one of the most exciting voices in contemporary international literature. Her novel "Purgatory", published in 2010, was on the Finnish bestseller list for months and was published in over forty countries. Sofi Oksanen, the daughter of an Estonian mother and a Finnish father, who writes exclusively in Finnish, often deals with the sore subjects of our past and present, such as the Soviet occupation of Estonia, social and political injustices, psychological problems and surrogate motherhood. She asks questions about human identity in times of cruel realities. Her most recent book "Putin's War on Women", a carefully researched essay on today's Russia, impressively tells the story of how Putin's Russia became what it is today and the tragic role that Russia's strategic misogyny has played and continues to play.
