Elizabeth I is pulling the strings this evening. - But Mary Stuart has dynamite! - with which she blows up her husband. Marvelous! He deserves it! Elizabeth may not have a husband, but she does have a scaffold - which Mary has to climb, but not until later. In the meantime, kings are locked up in wardrobes, Highlanders gallop through the heather in pleated skirts, tiny Catholic spies vomit on their shoes and Schiller wonders whether he has ever read Mary Stuart.
