Sofia Portanet

Sofia Portanet from Berlin was born on November 9, 1989 and entered the world with the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now she is breaking down walls herself with her reinterpretation of Neue Deutsche Welle: she sings in three languages (English, French and German) and has been playing international concerts in Europe and the USA since signing with the British-German label Duchess Box Records (Gurr, Laura Carbone).

Since the release of her debut single Freier Geist in 2018, she has become one of the most sought-after new acts in Germany - Klaus Fiehe from 1Live called her one of the best newcomers of the year and Lauren Laverne from BBC6 Music declared her "Germany's next international pop star". With the exception of Freier Geist, all the videos were created in collaboration with Philipp Virus, who is known for his work with K.I.Z, Kraftklub, Pabst, Atari Teenage Riot, Beatsteaks, Thurston Moore and Dinosaur Jr.

Their debut album Freier Geist was finally released in June, proudly incorporating influences from German music of the 70s and 80s, as well as icons such as Ingrid Caven, Hildegard Kneef, Ideal, Yma Sumac and David Bowie. The songs were written by Sofia and band member/producer Steffen Kahles.
