Sonderausstellung “Made in Almanya - Zwischen hier und dort” im Stadtmuseum Bad Cannstatt

The Stadtmuseum Bad Cannstatt cordially invites you to explore the exhibition "Made in Almanya - Between Here and There" by Bad Cannstatt artist Dilây Ibis.

The exhibition sheds light on how the grandchildren's generation of people who came to Germany as so-called guest workers in the 1960s and 1970s navigate their identity between the two cultures. Having grown up in Germany and at the same time having strong ties to Turkey, they are caught between two cultures and face the challenge of uniting them in their identity. This area of tension characterizes Ibis' work and is particularly visible in the depiction of German-Turkish dishes. The dishes are symbolic of home and family memories and at the same time show how deeply this culinary tradition is now rooted in German society. Sketches from Bad Cannstatt and Turkey complement the exhibition and provide a personal insight into the everyday life and places that have helped shape the artist's identity. Another part of the exhibition are video reports by videographers Savvas Grammatikopoulos, Balraj Singh Barpagga, Armstrong Frimpong and Sercan Aşik, which broaden the perspective and tell stories and experiences of people from Bad Cannstatt - including that of Ibis' grandfather, who came to Germany as a young man.

The opening will take place on January 23, 2025 at 6 pm in the Bad Cannstatt City Museum. The exhibition opening will be accompanied by a DJ set by lefteris.
A free artist tour will be offered on February 22, 2025 at 3 pm.
