Date
February 4, 2025, 6:00 PM

Lecture and discussion followed by Eva Illouz in conversation with Catherine Newmark

The Israeli sociologist and author Eva Illouz is one of the most important thinkers of our time. Following the Hamas attack on Israel, she has taken a stand on the situation in Israel and Palestine in numerous interviews and texts and sharply criticized the Netanyahu government. At the same time, she defends Israel's right to exist and denounces the rise of anti-Semitism in society. In her books, she has been illuminatingly examining questions such as why love hurts, why it ends and how capitalism affects our relationships and emotions for many years.

On February 4, 2025, Eva Illouz - after Daniel Kehlmann and Liao Yiwu - will give the third Stuttgart Future Speech. Eva Illouz is Professor of Sociology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Director of Studies at the Centre européen de sociologie et de science politique, École des hautes études en sciences sociales, Paris. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Anneliese Maier Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, as well as the Aby Warburg Award of the City of Hamburg and the Frank Schirrmacher Award.

Following the one-hour speech, philosopher and journalist Catherine Newmark will be in conversation with Eva Illouz.

After the event, the City of Stuttgart invites you to a reception.

The Stuttgart Future Speech is a collaboration between the following partners: Literaturhaus Stuttgart, Internationales Zentrum für Kultur- und Technikforschung Universität Stuttgart (IZKT), Institut français and Evangelisches Bildungszentrum Hospitalhof Stuttgart, sponsored by the City of Stuttgart and the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung
